As featured in Washingtonian© in April of 2003, Joseph A. Malouf has devoted his career to support the rights of Latino Community members in the Washington-Metropolitan Area.  Since 1990, Mr. Malouf has hosted his weekly Radio Show “Knowing Your Rights” on Radio America AM 1540 AM every Thursday at 3:30 PM for Spanish-Speaking listeners who may otherwise not be able to pay for an attorney who understands the issues in the Latino Community.   Judges, State’s Attorneys, Mayors, Police Representatives often appear on his radio program to connect with members of the Latino Community who need to understand their rights as well as their obligations.  Moreover, many in the Latino Community fall as victims to many crimes that go unreported. Knowing Your Rights© has allowed members of the Latino Community to connect with our law enforcement and improve help break barriers, improve relations and contribute to a safe and law abiding community.

Victor R. Ramirez has been committed himself to public service. As a member of Maryland, Maryland Hispanic, and Prince George’s County Bar Associations, he has worked pro bono for organizations like the House of Ruth, providing domestic violence victims with free legal support in court.

Mr. Ramirez  has been a presence in the community over the last decade. Some of the activities he has been involved in include serving on the Metro Center Campus Advisory Council of Prince George’s Community College, teaching English classes for non-English speaking adults, and serving as a board member for United Communities Against Poverty and the Prince George’s Child Resource Center. Currently, Victor coaches youth soccer with the Boys and Girls Club, with his team last year going undefeated!

Since being elected in 2003, Mr. Ramirez  has worked diligently on behalf of District 47. While serving on the Ways and Means Committee, he fought against the Republican administration’s attempt to cut funding for Prince George’s County education. In 2007, Mr. Ramirez began serving on the Judiciary Committee, where he has been a leading advocate for domestic violence protections. Serving as the Chairman of the Prince George’s County Law Enforcement subcommittee, he has fought for tougher legislation against problem liquor stores, allowing more restaurants to open in our community and ensuring that County Police have the tools they need.

In 2010, Victor R. Ramirez was elected State Senator for District 47 making history as the first Hispanic ever elected to the Maryland State Senate since it first evolved from the upper house of the colonial assembly created in 1650 when Maryland was a proprietary colony controlled by Cecilius Calvert.  In his first term in office in 2011, Senator Ramirez successfully proposed a bill which was ultimately passed called the DREAM Act of Maryland, which allows aspiring good students who reside in Maryland the ability to pay in-state tuition rates regardless of their immigration status. Victor R. Ramirez is well respected by the Washington-Metropolitan Area and has demonstrated true skills of leadership, integrity and public service.

Both Mr. Malouf and Mr. Ramirez are fluent in Spanish and English.
